Questions for week October 27th- November 1st

Masquerade
Part 3
Hiding our Hurts

1) Just for fun: Since Halloween is days away, a good ice breaker for your meeting would be to play the How Well Do You Know Your Candy Game here.

If you have not met since Masquerade began, we encourage you to go through some of the questions in the previous weeks found here (Part 1) and here (Part 2).

2) Everyone would probably agree that there's a big difference between what we need and what we want. Describe a time when you were dealing with weariness that God gave you just what needed instead of what you really wanted.  How did you respond?  And did you discover that what God gave turned out to be even greater than you thought it could? Please explain.

3) Read Hebrews 10:23 in a couple different translations. How does that verse of scripture land on you?

4) What was your main take-a-way, or what ministered to you the most, from the Masquerade Series?

Questions for week October 20th - 26th

Masquerade
Part 2
Hiding from Ourselves

If you have not met since Masquerade began, you can scroll down and use the questions from Part 1 as well as the ones from Part 2.

1) Just for fun: What is the most memorable costume or Trick or Treating memory you have? (This is the same question from last week's questions. Most likely you have not met since last week to have already asked this one.)

2) Mark said in his opening, Sometimes the more you are convinced you are right, the more you could actually be wrong. Our defensiveness could be a real clue to our self deceitfulness. Do you know someone right now who is deceiving themselves into believing they are not dealing with an issue when in fact you and everyone else can see they are?  Why do you think they can't see it when so many can?

3) Have you ever come to the realization that you too had been deceiving yourself regarding an issue you denied or ignored?  How did you respond to your revelation?

4) In order for us to stop deceiving ourselves we need to hear, know and be transformed by truth.  Has someone spoke a truth to you that was about you to help change you?  (This question is similar to #3 but #3 is about you coming to a realization and this question is more about someone else coming to you with a realization about yourself.)  Did you receive what this person was saying or did you think they were being irrational?

5) Is there something in your life right now that you would have the courage to drop your mask and confess to your life group that you know is an area God is dealing with you to work on in your life?  Is there anything your life group can do to support you as you face this challenge?

Close your time today, as Mark encouraged in the message, with Psalm 139:23, "Examine me, O God and know my mine; test me and reveal my thoughts.  Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me in the path of everlasting life."

Questions for week October 13th - 19th

Masquerade Part 1
Hiding from God
Genesis 2

1) Just for fun: What is the most memorable costume or Trick or Treating memory you have?

2) Pastor Mark showed us three of his masks in this message, Holy Mark, Happy Mark, and Handle it Mark, what masks can you admit to wearing? Why do you feel you have had to wear them?

3) One thing that drives us to wear masks is shame that is brought on by sin.  Do you know someone who is living this right now or has in the past?  How is/has their sin causing/caused them to mask who they really are?  What lessons can you learn by watching their life?

4) Have you experienced a failure that the shame of it began to define your life?  How have you been able to break free from it no longer letting the failure to define your future?

5) On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest) how did you rate yourself on the question of where you are in your relationship with God and how intimate you are with him?  Remember, you don’t have to cover your sin and shame because God has covered you with Jesus.

Pray with your group that you would all deepen your relationship and intimacy with God and learn to drop your masks through this series.

Questions for week October 6th - 12th

Pastor Caleb Carmichael
Building Healthy Families Part 2

1) Just for fun: What is your all time favorite restaurant and what is your favorite thing to order there?

2) Was there someone in your life that spent time with you that helped shape who you are today?  Is there someone you are spending time with now helping shape who they are?  I not, can you think of someone you can spend time with to help develop them and leave a legacy in their life?

3) In the story of the prodigal son, the son had no compassion for his brother who wasted his inheritance.  Have you ever found yourself being like the son, compassionless for those who have blatantly done wrong and are now suffering from the consequences?

4) Think about the rhythm of your week, when are the most natural times and methods for you to connect on a consistent basis with someone to help develop them?  Maybe your answer will help inspire someone in your group to use the same times and methods.

5) Building healthy families depends more on what you leave IN them than what you leave WITH them.  What are some of the things you have purposely tried to instill in your children, or what things do you purposely intend to instill when you have children?  If you plan for your life does not include children, what kids in your life can you influence and what can you instill in them?
